Bartender of the Month -- Annie! Annie is our August superstar. I've been her partner for over five years running and I must say I've never met anyone as funny or as drop dead gorgeous as Annie. She's got balls, too. We've jumped out of planes together, literally! And she's the best date to accompany you to Disney, hands down. Hey Annie, Rap Snacks forever! Name: Annie Where are you from? Born and raised in NYC baby! Nobody ever believes me, but it's true. People always think I'm from the midwest, maybe it's the hat, or my natural I-grew-up-on-a-farm beauty! Ha! Ha! Really, I grew up in Manhattan, but now I live in Brooklyn and I love it! Shifts:Thursday nights! How long have you worked at Red Rock? Almost 5 years...wow! How did you get your job? I lived in the neighborhood, and used to come in a lot. I mentioned to Tracy one night that I had quit my other bartending job and she said "you should work here!" To which I said, " No Way! I could never do this!!!" But she ignored me, and wrote a note to the owner that said, "Hi, I'm a hot sexy bartender who lives around the corner, call me." She made me sign it with my phone number, and I thought it was all a big joke, until I got a phone call the next day! What happened next was my funniest experience at Red Rock which you'll hear about later. What makes you a Red Rock superstar? Oh Jesus! Well, now that I lost my cowboy hat, I don't know anymore. Seriously, has anybody seen a black leather cowboy hat with magic superstar powers? Damn, I'll have to get a new one. Actually, I think what makes me good at my job is that I really love it! I have a blast every time I work! I love to dance, you'll never see me standing still, my tailfeather is on permanent shake mode! And I love to drink, so buy me a shot, bitch! Tell us your funniest experience at Red Rock: When I went in for my (air quotes) "interview." It was three o'clock in the afternoon on a Wednesday, and the owner had told me she wanted to see me dance on the bar. I was really nervous. I was expecting this older woman with a clipboard watching me dance over her bi-focals to no music in an empty bar with all the lights on. I walked in and the bar was PACKED wall to wall with firemen! I climbed behind the bar and the hottest woman I had ever seen grabbed me and said, "Hi I'm Lori Ann! Buds are here, Coors Lights are there, go!" About five minutes later she handed me a can of whipped cream, pulled me up on the bar, and screamed, "Let's get this guy!" Little orphan Annie popped into my head... "I think I'm gonna like it here..." What's your biggest pet peeve as a bartender? Bad tippers. No, worse than that are corporate card bad tippers! C'mon man, I took care of your whole party all night, I know you had the time of your life, and it's not even your money! How do you spend your time when you're not bartending? Answering questions about bartending on my computer. No, seriously, playing solitaire on my computer. It's funny 'cause it's true. Actually I make custom made photo albums for people, weird. I'm an artist, I paint, I make jewelry, and I've recently become obsessed with gardening. I have a garden that I practically live in during the summer. Favorite drink? Ketel One and Coors Light. A shot of classy vodka, with a white trash beer! That pretty much sums up my personality! Come drink with me Babies!!! We'll have a party! Please come in and visit Annie every Thursday nite. She works with Melissa and me starting at 10:30pm. It's always a party. Tell her you saw her interview on the website, not that she'll care! She's extremely humble and would probably blush (hardy har har). But it'll probably get yourself a minute of her time and a shot or five of ketel one, and it'll be worth it. You'll be running to join her stalker club! Monday, July 26, 2004

Bartender of the Month--Alison! Name: Alison Birthplace: I grew up in Rockland County. I lived there most of my life, although I went to college in Buffalo. That wasn't nearly as bad as it sounds. There are tons of great bars up there, and I had a lot of fun (from what I can remember). But I live here in the city now....no place I would rather be. Shifts: Monday nights, Wednesday afternoons, and Saturday nights at the back bar. How long have you worked at Red Rock? How did you get your job? I'm coming up on my 2 year anniversary. I got my job because of my big mouth. I'm hanging out at the back bar on a Saturday night, drinking, talking to people,etc...basically just having a good time. I had been in a few days earlier with a resume. I'm talking to the guy bartending at the back bar, and he tells me that the only reason he's bartending is because the girl that normally works never showed up. Well, big mouth that I am, I pipe up "If I had given in my resume a few days earlier, it would have been ME working the bar tonight". He told me that had I been in the bar a few HOURS earlier, I would have been working. I had no idea that the whole time I had been talking to the owner of the bar. I started the very next week and I've been at Red Rock ever since. Sometimes it pays to have a big mouth, and I think I've got the market cornered. What is your funniest experience at Red Rock? I've had so many funny experiences that it's hard to nail it down to just one. I think some of the strangest things that have happened involve running into random people that I haven't seen in years. I have run into people from high school, jobs I've held while still in Rockland County, even from college (remember I went way up in Buffalo). I think it's always more shocking for them to see me than vice versa. The best was when I spotted someone half way across the room and sent a complete stranger after him to get him to come over. It was my freshman year crush from college, and he was celebrating his bachelor party. Now whenever I go to work, I always wonder, "Will someone from my past make an appearance tonight?" What is your biggest pet peeve as a bartender? I love bartending, but there are a few things that tend to get on my nerves. For example, people that insist on trying to get my attention while I'm serving another customer. Don't shout my name from the other end of the bar when you need another drink, especially if you see me serving someone else. Chances are, I already know you need something, and I'm making my way down there....good things are worth the wait. Also, whistling at me is not an appropriate way to let me know your drink is empty. Hey, I'm an old fashioned girl (I can almost say that with a straight face) and sometimes there's a place for some old fashioned manners. Politeness goes a long way. How do you spend your free time? I dedicate a lot of my free time on my one, true addiction...SHOPPING. I have a real problem. I get in these moods, and I just need to spend money. There's nothing as satisfying as carrying home bags filled with pretty new clothes. I just can't seem to help myself despite my overflowing closets and drawers. But alas, the stores don't stay open all night (unfair as that may be) so I have to find other nocturnal activities. I'm really into watching live bands, the louder the better. I can also be found occasionally at dance clubs. However, I'm just as happy to chill with a good friend or two at my apartment with a movie and a bottle of wine. Alison is someone you HAVE to drink with. She's no-holds-barred, in your face, and you'll leave feeling like you've just made a new friend. The fact that she's goth sexy doesn't hurt, either! Please tell her you saw her interview, and then buy her a drink, or three! |
